Pete Lee ’00M (corner), assistant football coach for nine years, was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2006 season according to head coach Rocky Rees. Lee will continue to be in charge of the offensive line and tight ends. Mark Maciejewski ’92-’96M (above) returns after a year’s absence as assistant coach in charge of the defensive backs, a responsibility he held from 2000-04.

Tim Verge ’89, Raider swimming coach, announced former Penn State standout Sarah Haupt will join the team as an assistant coach while she pursues her master’s degree in counseling as a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate scholar at Ship.

Volleyball hits the court with a new assistant coach, Abby Leonard. Abby comes to Ship from Juniata where she was a standout player and a student assistant for the men’s team. While on the team, Juniata went 145-13 and appeared in the national championship twice, winning her junior year.

SU was ranked 12th on the list of top Division II academic and athletic colleges and universities in the county by the National Collegiate Scouting Association. The rankings are calculated for every school participating in the NCAA and are arrived by averaging the U.S. News & World Report ranking, the U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup rank, and the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate.

Junior softball player Heather Chantiles was named PSAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Yearthe second woman and third Ship athlete to attain this honor since its inception in 1991. Students must attain at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and compete in intercollegiate sports. The athlete of the year is chosen from 15 athletes, five for each season named by the conference. Additionally 72 women and 31 men were designated as Ship student athletes by the PSAC.

Naomi Radio is the new Lady Raider head coach for lacrosse. Last year she was the assistant under then head coach Bertie Landes. Landes will continue as head field hockey coach.

Rob Fulton, a second-year assistant soccer coach, was promoted to head coach of the Lady Raider soccer team. He takes over from Guy Furfaro who will remain the men’s head coach.

Head Lady Raider softball coach Bob Brookens has added Katie Davis as an assistant coach who will be concentrating on improving the Lady Raider’s offense. Davis was an accomplished player for Fordham prior to assuming her position here at Ship.

The Red Raider basketball team will face off against the Nittany Lions in an exhibition game on November 6 in the Bryce Jordan Center. Game time is 7:30pm. For tickets, details and fan travel information call Coach Dave Springer at 477-1449.

The team will be joined by former basketball standout Marcus Hudson ’06, who is rejoining the Red Raiders as the new assistant coach. Marcus is Ship’s all-time steals leader as a four-year member of the program.

The largest fundraiser for women’s athletics at Ship is the Lady Raider Golf Tournament. Now in its 17th year, the June 19th tourney added an additional $25,560 to Lady Raider sports. The money is used to fund scholarship opportunities for women in ten intercollegiate sports.
