Contracts extended

The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) voted to extend the contract of Chancellor Judy G. Hample to July 31, 2007. The board also re-elected Kenneth M. Jarin as chair, and Kim E. Lyttle and C.R. “Chuck” Pennoni as vice chairs.

Dixon remembered

Founding PASSHE chair F. Eugene Dixon recently passed away. An integral part of the creation of the State System, he served as chair from its inception in 1983 until his resignation in 2000. In addition to serving on several college and university boards, he was involved in ownership positions with the Philadelphia Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers.

Lowest tuition

The PASSHE Board of Governors raised tuition at the 14 state-owned universities by 2.7 percent or $132 for the 2006-07 academic year. The new rate for full-time resident undergraduate students is now $5,038 for two semesters, the lowest rate among all four-year college and universities in the state according to PASSHE. Chair Kenneth Jarin said, “With tuition at about $5000, our universities offer education that is both affordable and of high quality.”
