Wible ’34 (deceased), was inducted into the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame. 50s Nancy Hykes Stankus ’59-’69m, York, retired in May after 44 years in education, the last 20 at SU’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy which she chaired for 15 years. 60s Robert McCloskey ’61-’67m, Harrisburg, retired from teaching after 41 years in the Central Dauphin School District. He and his wife Linda are painting fine art and attending art shows. Jeffory G. Boyer ’64, Falls Church, Va., retired from the Agency for International Development (USAID) after 29 years as a consultant and later staff technical/policy advisor. Previously, worked in city and regional planning in the D.C. area and served in the Peace Corps/Brazil. His wife, Maria Isabel Garcia, is from Peru.
Terry E. Shaffer ’68-’72m, Hagerstown, Md., completed his 3rd year at Alternative Education with the Washington County Public Schools and presented a workshop at the 25th Anniversary Conference of Family Support America in Chicago, Illinois which resulted in an article in the spring issue of the Journal of Educational Alternatives, Principles, Practices, and Leadership. 70s Thomas R. Coy ’70,’72m-’80m, Shippensburg, who retired in 2006 after 36 years teaching social studies in the Shippensburg Area School District (26 years as department chair) is an adjunct professor at Wilson College, supervising student teachers. Mildred Horn Bassler ’71, Martinsburg, retired from Northern Bedford County School District after 35 years teaching 1st and 2nd grades. Jeanne Pappas Friedman ’71, Aventura, retired as principal from Miami Beach Senior High School after a career in education for more than three decades. Francis “Rick” Knepper ’71-’76m, Chambersburg, retired in June after teaching 34 years at Southern Huntingdon County School District.
Joetta Lensie Bradica ’72m, Narvon, Penn State College of Medicine, earned her doctorate in higher education leadership from Widener University in May. Janice E. Brown ’72, North Cape May, N.J., was certified as a Dream Coach in January, an aspect of coaching she is integrating into her business, Waterfall Coaching. Carolyn Rogers Freberg ’73, Carlisle, received Carlisle Area School District’s Award of Excellence in Education that recognizes professionalism, academic acumen, innovation, and public service.
Joseph M. Snoke ’74,’81m-’84m, York, successfully defended his dissertation as part of Duquesne/Shippensburg IDPEL doctorate program for educational leaders. Dawn DeCwikiel Kane ’75, Greensboro, N.C., placed 3rd in the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editions’ 2007 Excellence in Writing Awards in the Arts & Entertainment Feature category. Linda White Wagner ’75, Ft. Washington, received the Secretary of Labor Exceptional Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding team efforts that led to an integrated, demand-driven workforce investment system responsive to the needs of business and job seekers. Sally Yorke-Viney ’75, Pocono Summit, a 2nd grade teacher and adjunct professor of elementary and early childhood education at East Stroudsburg University, recently attained her Ph.D. in instructional leadership from Marywood University in Scranton. |
