50th Anniversary
I enjoyed the article on the 50th anniversary of the Slate. I have a question, however. Was Marty (Rolfe) LeGrand ’76 sent to Washington to cover Jimmy Carter’s inauguration when his inauguration was in 1977?
Also, I believe the reason the Slate covered Carter’s inauguration was because the marching band represented Pennsylvania in the inaugural parade. This important piece of Ship lore is memorable for those of us who nearly froze to death for the experience!

I received my copy of SU Magazine and eagerly began to read it. I was glad to see an article about the Slate’s 50th anniversary, which was celebrated this past April. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed to see WSYC, an organization of which I have been an active member for the past four years, was relegated to a sidebar, even though we were part of this spring’s festivities.
Like the Slate, WSYC has a 50-year tradition of service to both the campus and greater Shippensburg communities by providing the newest music, news, and Ship sports. In fact, thanks to our Internet stream, we regularly get listeners from as far away as Iraq and Hawaii. I had the privilege of researching and writing the history of WSYC for my graduate project, and I was amazed to learn just how much station alumni have accomplished, during and after their time here.
Please consider running an article about WSYC. The campus resource deserves it.

Award question
I just read your summer issue including the article on the newest Distinguished Alumni Awards. I was wondering what the criteria was for these awards, what is the process of choosing alumni for these awards, and are alumni involved?

A Newsbrief miss
As much as I absolutely loved hearing some of my fellow Greeks (and my chapter) getting some well-deserved recognition, there unfortunately was a mistake in the article. The sorority is Kappa Delta Phi N.A.S., not just Kappa Delta Phi. Kappa Delta Phi, a men’s fraternity that was started in the 1900s, happened to help start my sorority, Kappa Delta Phi N.A.S. The N.A.S. separates us from the fraternity and keeps us out of legal trouble with them.
Thank you very much for the representation!
Sincerely,
Christiana Theobald,
