Alumni Humanitarian Award Presented to an alumnus/a and a member of the campus community in recognition of his/her direct impact on diversity and cultural experiences of students on campus. Recipients of this award exemplify a commitment to the growth of human understanding and freely give of their time and effort to support the academic success and retention of multicultural students at Shippensburg University. Outstanding Young Alumnus Award Presented to a graduate who is forty years old or younger in recognition of outstanding achievement in his/her field of endeavor for the benefit of the community and society. The award is presented for achievement in the following areas: public service, business, and education. Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumnus Award Presented to an alumnus/a in recognition of distinguished achievement in his/her field of endeavor for the benefit of the community and society. The award is made to an individual who has distinguished himself/herself in the arts and sciences, business, or education and human services. Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to an alumnus/a in recognition of life-long career achievement and personal commitment in his/her field of endeavor for the benefit of the community and society. The recipient may have not already received the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Exceptional Service Award This is given to recognize and thank outstanding persons who have given unselfishly of their time and efforts for the betterment of Shippensburg University. The award, which may be presented to any person who is an alumnus or friend of the university, implies the recipient has given him/herself to the university in a way that is extraordinary, going far beyond what could normally be expected. Athletic Hall of Fame Presented to a graduate who has received varsity letters at Shippensburg provided they contributed substantially to the athletic program for a minimum of two years, performed in intercollegiate athletics in a manner considered outstanding, demonstrated good citizenship after leaving Shippensburg. Nominees become eligible ten years after leaving Shippensburg. (The committee and/or the university president may consider extenuating circumstances in waiving the ten-year requirement.) Honorary award nominations accepted for any former employee who has contributed significantly to the athletic program at Shippensburg. Coaches who retired from coaching at SU but are still employed at the university are eligible to receive an honorary award for coaching. ROTC Burkhart Hall of Fame Inductees must have graduated from Shippensburg with a bachelor’s degree and received a commission upon graduation and/or obtained the rank of colonel, decorated with the Soldiers Medal, its equivalent, or higher, received an honorable discharge, and later distinguished oneself in the public or private sector. Nomination forms are available at www.ship.edu/alumni. In the box on the left hand side, under Alumni Services, click on Nomination Forms. Then select the award you are interested in. You may also submit your nominations via mail or fax. Nominations must include which award the nomination is for, the name of the nominee, complete address information, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses followed by why you are nominating that individual.
