Who would think to look for a summer job in the stairwells and rooms of the campus residence halls? For a crew of seven the answer seemed obvious as they applied paint amid good-natured kidding and serious conversations. Drawbacks like heat, humidity, and lack of air conditioning are out-weighed by the flexibility of the job and the camaraderie that unites the workers. Painting the rooms used to be done by outside help. Currently interested students are interviewed in the spring and work May through mid-August. Good workers are invited back. Tony Seng, for example, has been on the paint crew three years. |
