Alumni activities offer multiple opportunities!

Do you receive brochures or flyers announcing alumni activities? Do you look on-line at the Alumni Calendar of Events for activities in your area? (http://www.ship.edu/alumni/)

Alumni events range in attendance from a small group of 5-10 people to large events with 30-50 or even 100+ attendees. For a relatively small fee, you have the ability to reconnect with the university, enjoy a local or regional attraction, and perhaps most importantly—network with alumni and friends of Shippensburg University.

Say hello to old acquaintances or meet new folks with an easy conversation starter —SHIP. If you are new to an area, it is like an instant resource/referral group for employment tips and general life issues.

Our alumni staff have been privy to many conversations between alumni… where to live, shop, alternate directions, the best place to eat or just hang out, what companies are expanding, who’s who in the community, professional organizations, community projects, …you name it—people talk about it—we’ve heard it.

Are you missing all this?

Are you aware that “word-of-mouth” recruitment and employment hiring by referral is still one of the best avenues to a new position? This is especially true for that passive person who really is not even looking to make a change but an opportunity simply presents itself.

This issue’s career tip—focus on meeting people, making connections, and being open to new opportunities.
