The university welcomes Hector Maymi-Sugrañes as the new associate vice president of information technologies and services and dean of library and media services. Previously he was the library director for the Imperial Valley campus of San Diego University and was an adjunct research fellow at San Diego State Institute of Regional Studies of the Californias.

Previously Maymi-Sugrañes was library director, director of the university Professional Services Program, and acting co-chief information and development director at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison he was librarian at the Land tenure Center Library and head librarian at the Woodman Astronomical Library. He served as a consultant for library and archive development and director of the documents and publications unit at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus.

Maymi-Sugrañes is no stranger to the classroom, having taught at various institutions at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council of Youth Affairs for Puerto Rico, various committees at the University of Puerto Rico and San Diego State, the American Library Association, the Latin American Studies Association, and the Association of College and Research Libraries. In addition he has written articles and presented at various professional conferences.

Maymi-Sugrañes earned his doctorate in library and information studies, his master’s in Latin American and Iberian Studies, and advanced work in archives studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned his master’s in library and information science and his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Puerto Rico.
