Seventeen years after his retirement, Dr. John Hubley ’50 was surprised to receive the Suzanne S. Brown Award from the PASSHE that recognizes outstanding professionals in student affairs. In accepting his award, Hubley said, “I appreciate having my work recognized. It was a team effort and a result of all the good people I worked with through the years.” Hubley came to campus as the acting dean of men and assistant football coach, then moved to director of admissions, and promoted to dean of students. Then-President Gilmore Seavers appointed him the first vice president for student affairs, this was not only a first for Shippensburg but also for the then state colleges. When he retired, Hubley was the executive vice president of the university. |
