Spring Commencement
A crowd of more than 11,000 graduates, families, and friends were on hand for the first commencement presided over by President Bill Ruud. “I am honored to participate in my first commencement as Shippensburg University’s president,” he said as cheers erupted from the graduates.
Pamela O’Berry Evans ’90 (shown bottom right), commissioner, Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control, gave the commencement address. She told the Class of 2007 that world events had made them learn and practice the virtues of courage, sacrifice, and faithvirtues that would serve them well throughout life.
Ruud also offered advise to the graduates telling them to listen not only to their heads and hearts but to those they love and who love them. He reminded them to do the right thing for the right reason, “especially when nobody is looking.” He sent them off by saying, “Work hard. Play hard. Live life.”

Commencement began with representatives from the Class of 1957 leading the procession. President Ruud smiles, enjoying his first ceremony at Ship. After the program, families congratulate the new graduates. “Hey! Look at me, I did it!” Congratulations Class of 2007.
