In a heartbreaker, the Lady Raider tennis team ended their season with a loss to Seton Hill. It was the last match for seniors No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles players Melinda DeWald (inset) and Nicole Perugini.

Shippensburg finished in fourth in the Dixon Trophy standings with a total of 130 points. Lock Haven won its third trophy and first since 2002 with 143.5 points. West Chester (135.5) was second, followed by Slippery Rock (132.5), Shippensburg and Kutztown (127).

Under first-year head coach Naomi Radio, Ship advanced to its third PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship in the last four seasons. Sophomore Beth Long was named to the All-PSAC First Team while junior Kristin Crutchfield (pictured above) earned Second Team honors.
Under first-year head coach Matt Jones (inset top right), the Red Raider baseball team won its first PSAC title since 2003 and made its first NCAA regional appearance since 2004. Five Red Raiders received all-conference and all-region honors, highlighted by sophomore Matt Wright (inset bottom right) who was named PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year. Wright, along with junior Justin Garber (below), was named to the North Atlantic Region First Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Daktronics, Inc.

Eric Perlozzo (below) was named to the North Atlantic Region Championship All-Tournament team. In eight post-season games he hit .469, stole five bases, scored eight times, and drove in three runs.


The men finished second at the PSAC outdoor championships hosted by SU while the women placed fourth. Junior Bernie Richards (top left) captured the championship in the 400-meter hurdles and finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. He qualified in both events for the NCAA championships.
Senior Nate Reider (top middle) followed his conference championship by placing first in the javelin at the NCAA championships. The conference win was his second-straight individual title in the javelin and his third-straight qualification for nationals. He also won the hammer throw at the conference meet.
Mary Dell (top right) was named the PSAC Indoor Rookie of the Year while senior Megan Schweighofer (right) won her first career individual championship in the hammer throw at the PSAC outdoor championships and placed fifth in the discus.

The Lady Raider softball team finished with a 30-24 overall record, posting its sixth consecutive 30-win season and sixth-straight NCAA regional championship appearance in seven seasons under Head Coach Bob Brookens. Sophomore Rachelle Wedell (left) and freshman Nicole Henninger (middle) were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
Katie Heatley (right), a co-caption, was named to the ESPN, the Magazine Academic All District II second team. She graduated with a 3.8 in criminal justice, was a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, and served two years as president of the SU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. With the committee, she helped raise over $4,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of the NCAA’s Division II.
PRO UPDATE Paul Abraham ’01 and Evan Englebrook ’04 are playing minor league baseball in the Class AA Texas League with the San Antonio Missions and the Corpus Christi Hooks respectively. Nathan Stamer ’06 is in Class A, playing for the Lansing Lugnuts. All are pitchers. Outfielder Jaime Dacey ’06 is in her second year with the National Pro Fastpitch League’s Philadelphia Force.
Head swim coach Tim Verge ’89 was named PSAC Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year. This was Tim’s ninth year at the helm of the Raider program.
