Ellen Morgan Piacentine ’45, Gettysburg, tour guide for five years, reenacts Kathryn Barr, a Gettysburg citizen during the Civil War. She published Civil War Tales for Children, Tall and True, and won poetry awards for “Little Drummer Boy” and “A Moment in Time.”

Betty Baird Baumgardner ’46, and husband James, Yorktown, Va., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. They met in December 1944 when Shippensburg invited James’ Navy unit to the junior prom. The sailors drew numbers from a hat and James drew Betty’s number — they were married in 1948 and have been in love ever since.

Nancy Knol ’60, Highlands Ranch, Colo., retired from the Pa. Liquor Control Board and moved to Denver, where she met John Elway. She is part of a three-generation family of SHIP graduates.

Glenn Cordell ’63-’68m, McConnellsburg, addressed the student body of a Muslim secondary school in Istaravshan, Tajikistan on opening day in September 2007, as a result of an exchange student from that school spending a year in McConnellsburg.

Richard Fetzer ’67, Lock Haven, retired in 2002 after 35 years as an elementary teacher in Pennsylvania public schools before joining Lock Haven University as instructor and supervisor of student teachers. His book Please Listen to Me was published in June.

Margaret Moore ’70, Etters, retired in June 2006 after teaching 1st-3rd grades at Middletown Area School District for over 35 years.

Mary Pennell Licata ’71, Cape May Court House, N.J., and husband Jerry, opened L’s Restaurant & JBone’s Tavern in Corbin City, N.J.

Susan Atkinson ’72, ’73m- ’79m, Dillsburg, retired in May after working 15 years at Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg and 21 years at Lebanon Valley College with plans to start an antiques and military business.

Douglas R. Cadiz ’72, social work executive and manager for Geriatrics and Extended Care programs at the VA Medical Center Northampton, Mass., retired in January after 33 years of federal service with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He and his wife Dana ’72, reside in South Windsor, Conn.

Nondis Chesnut ’72, Daytona, Fla., is named in Cambridge Who’s Who for 2008, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in American Women.

Roy Wasson ’72, Fort Myers, Fla., welcomed first grandchild Rebecca May Wasson on June 6, 2007.

Joyce Fedora ’73, Exton, after 33 years as senior manager for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, celebrated her retirement with a vacation trip to Iceland.

Stanley L. Bowie ’76, Knoxville, Tenn., president/owner of Behavioral Research Consultants, was a featured speaker for the Community Speaks Program celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Kurry Swigert ’76, Mt. Holly Springs, was promoted to product and research officer at Orrstown Bank in Shippensburg.

Judy Walter ’77, Fayetteville, English teacher at Franklin County Career & Technology Center, has completed graduate work in the humanities at California State University, special education at Frostburg State University, and clinical nutrition at Natural Healing Institute of Naturopathy, and recently wrote a self-help guide for cancer patients.

Gregory Green ’79 Boynton Beach, Fla., as Choice Programs coordinator for Plumosa School of Visual, Performing and Communication Arts will oversee art integration and implementation at the school.
