Grandchildren and golf will figure more prominently in President Tony Ceddia’s future as he announced his pending retirement effective on June 30, 2005.

At that time, Ceddia will have served 24 years as president of the university, the longest tenure in the history of the institution.

“We each in our own way understand that our lives have beginnings and endings, and today I am ending one phase and beginning another. I am ending my career in education as president of one of the finest regional public institutions in the country, but I am beginning a new career equally as important—grandfather.

“It’s time for me, along with my wife, Valerie, to spend more time with our grandchildren, to see them grow and, I hope, to help them enjoy the many wonders the world has to offer. As much as I enjoy what I am doing, it’s time to now focus on my family and return the support they have given me.”

Ceddia, with his wife Valerie in attendance, made his announcement at a recent Shippensburg University Council of Trustees meeting.

A retrospective will be published in a future issue.
