The William H. Burkhart Department of Military Science Hall of Fame added the Class of 2006 during ceremonies held on December 7, 2006. Honored were Colonels John Angevine ’83, Craig Brown, Ret. ’81, Michael Erdley ’83, and Robert Johnson, Jr. ’85.
Col. John Angevine ’83 is the chief of the Joint Intelligence Analysis Office in the Defense Intelligence Agency. He has served in the Balkans, Korea, Germany, and the Persian Gulf. Stateside he served at Forts Rucker, Campbell, and Bragg, plus assignments in Wisconsin, Florida, and Washington, D.C. |

Col. Craig Brown ’81, now retired, finished his career as the deputy operations officer and director, Central Command Special Operations Directorate where he participated in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Much of his career was in special operations. |

C ol. Michael Erdley ’83 is currently the chief of the Missile Defense Policy Branch in the Deputy Directorate for Strategy and Policy, Directorate for Strategic Plans and Policy of the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C. He has served in Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Fort Bliss among others.

Col. Robert Johnson Jr. ’85 is at Scott Air Force Base as the chief of the deployment and distribution operations of the United States Transportation Command. He has served in Kosovo, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Germany, Washington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. |

E arlier in the fall, in a separate ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of ROTC on campus, retired Col. Joseph Cretella was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Cretella’s military career covered 27 years and assignments including Germany, Vietnam, and Washington, D.C. After his retirement in 1993, he became dean of admissions at SU, retiring from that position in 2005. |
Inductees must have graduated from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree and received a commission upon graduation and/or obtained the rank of colonel, decorated with the Soldiers Medal, its equivalent, or higher, received an honorable discharge and later distinguished oneself in the public or private sector.
