Looks Who’s 25

Can it really be 25 years since the fourteen state colleges were placed under the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and were granted university status? The State System celebrated with an event on the steps of the Rotunda in the Capitol in Harrisburg. Guest speakers included Ken Jarin, chair of the PASSHE Board of Governors. Music was provided by The Criterions, the jazz band from West Chester University and the Pipe Band from Edinboro.

Emeritus Status

As part of the 25 year celebration, PASSHE conferred Chancellor Emeritus upon the founding chancellor, James H. McCormick, who served for eighteen years in that capacity before leaving to assume the role of chancellor for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. Some may remember McCormick as the president of Bloomsburg State College and as a professor and administrator at Ship.

LeaderSHIP

To get the new Entrepreneurial Leadership Center established on campus, the State System is provided a grant of more than $200,000 for services on and off campus at an entrepreneurship informational hub. The hub will be located with the university’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Grove Hall. Among the services will be workshops and programs for individuals or groups interested in starting their own businesses. The center opened in March. Information is available by calling the SBDC at 717-477-1935.

Visiting Chief

Chancellor John C. Cavanaugh spent a day on campus getting to know more about Shippensburg in his role as chancellor of the State System of Higher Education. In addition to meeting with university officials, he held two open forums, one for students and one for faculty and staff associates.
