Years in the making, from inspiration to reality, the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center opened its doors in early December to rave reviews.
From the box office, to the green room, VIP dressing rooms, and music facilities, from the stage, to the box seats, to the balcony, the Luhrs Center is making a statementIt’s serious about performing.
Just how serious? Hundreds of guests who toured the building and enjoyed musical performances by student ensembles noted the outstanding acoustics and view from every seat.
At the dedication ceremony, guests were treated to self-guided tours of the entire facility while listening to various talented university ensembles. Prior to the dedication, music department chair, Jon Cart sang accompanied by fellow department member Margaret Lucia on piano. Special speakers at the ceremony included H. Ric Luhrs’ widow, Grace, and his sister Helene.
On December 4th, the Vienna Boys Choir became the first off-campus professional act to perform in the center. The inaugural season kicks off with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the musical talents of Wynton Marsalis on January 19.
