Dale Benner ’83 married Donna Ramer on September 23. His son Justin and daughter Haley attended. They reside in York. Patricia Dalton Kelly ’83, Mohnton, an ESL teacher at Lauer’s Park Elementary in Reading, received her elementary education certificate from Alvernia College and ESL certificate from Penn State Berks. Derek R. Layser ’83, Collegeville, was an invited speaker at the National Business Institute Seminar on advanced expert witness deposition tactics. Harry Vann Phillips ’83, Carlisle, now at the Center for Strategic Leadership at the US Army War College, retired after 23 years with the US Army in October 2006 where his last assignment was as a United Nations’ desk officer for Sudan/Darfur. Sandra Schlesman Anthony ’84, Scottsdale, Ariz., graduated with an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in May and ordained by the United Church of Christ on October 21 for a ministry as a chaplain at the Beatitudes Campus in Phoenix. Douglas T. Byerly ’84, Lock Haven, manager of athletics fundraising at Bucknell University, has been the Bison Sports Network radio color analyst for the men’s basketball program for the past four seasons. Col. Roger Nye ’84, Martinsburg, W.Va., is commander of the 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard, Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport-Shepherd Field, in Martinsburg. Donald Ossman ’84 and wife Lorie, Ashland, daughter Carissa Elizabeth born August 31. She joins sister Schuyler Olivia 6 and brother Jarod Dylan 4. Andrew P. Hough ’85, Waynesboro, is celebrating 20 years of service with Garver Surveying. Lori Wyland Stollar ’85, East Berlin, program specialist for curriculum and professional development at the Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12, wrote “The Power of Classroom Walk-throughs” in the Spring 2007 edition of Pennsylvania Educational Leadership. Barbara Burkhardt Fair-child ’87, Shippensburg, a first-grade teacher at Mercersburg Elementary School in the Tuscarora School District, was selected as an Outstanding Teacher for the 2007-08 academic year by the SU School Study Council (SUSSC) in recognition of teaching excellence and innovative curriculum development practices. Michael R. Smith ’87m, Lillington, N.C., recently promoted to full professor of mass communications at Campbell University, was one of 40 scholars worldwide to be invited to the Oxford Round Table, Oxford, England to present research on cyberspace. In September he spoke to the National Newspaper Association on hyperlocalism and trends in the press, and continues to serve as head of the Media and Disability Interest Group for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Richard Rodriguez ’89, Walkersville, Md., was promoted to sergeant on the midnight patrol section for the Arlington County Va. Police Department. He serves with the Honor Guard Unit, Crisis Negotiations Unit, and teaches at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. He also works for a private company as part of a four-man team that travels internationally to provide executive protection. Lisa Bebey ’89, Southington, Conn., adopted daughter Maizie Jiang Miller on July 10. She started a blog for Masquers (former SU theatre club) at sumasquers.blogspot.com. Lisa Kampf Lopez ’89, New York, N.Y., is investor relations officer for MF Global, the number one global broker of Derivatives and Options. |
