It was an exciting season for women’s volleyball. Head coach Leanne Piscotty was named PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year. The team won a record 30 matches, won its second PSAC East Championship in four years, and made its first appearance in the NCAA championships. Individually, sophomores Kali Antolik (shown left, 1st team) and Brittany Roche (hm) were selected to the AVCA All-Atlantic region team and earned All-PSAC Eastern division honors. Junior Maureen DuVall and sophomores Colleen Toomey and Cindel Young (2nd team) also earned All-PSAC East honors.

Senior Geoff Bloes, school record holder in career goals (51) and points (130), was named to the Daktronics All-America first team, the second in program history. He was selected PSAC Soccer Player of the Year and Daktronics Northeast Region Player of the Year. Senior Jim Harkins was named to the All-PSAC second team.

Make-A-Wish... Ship athletes were 5th in the NCAA Div. II for raising funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation. The athletes were involved in a number of fundraisers during the 2006-07 academic year.

Sophomore Wrestler Steve Fittery was ranked second at 141 pounds by the NCAA Div. II Wrestling Coaches’ Association pre-season poll. As a team, the Red Raiders were one of six teams receiving votes.

Ship’s contribution to the All-PSAC Eastern Division Women’s soccer second team represents each class year with freshman Amanda Greenawalt, sophomore Gayle Kuntzmann (left), junior Beth Long, and senior Mallory Skipp.

Raiders Basketball—Both Raider basketball teams were picked to finish 4th in the PSAC Western Division in the pre-season coaches poll. The Lady Raiders are expecting freshman scoring record holder Lauren Beckley and senior guard Megan Fogle to anchor the team. The Red Raiders are looking to guards Alex Jones and Ryan Kraft to lead a team with six freshmen and eight newcomers.

The Lady Raiders Cross Country team earned 6th-place at the PSAC Championships and NCAA Division II East Region Championships. Freshman Abby Huber (right) was the top freshman finisher at the region championship, finishing 12th, and sophomore Mary Dell finished 13th— both earned all-region honors.

Kelly Stewart ’04 qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials after winning the Columbus Marathon on October 21.

Junior Kim Davies (shown above) was named to the NFHCA All-America First Team after leading the team with 42 points, totaling 16 goals and a team-high 10 assists. Her 42 points ranked ninth for a single-season in school history while her 10 assists were tied for fifth. Davies and senior Megan Keener were selected All-PSAC First Team while senior Kristen Miller and sophomore Chelsea Zook were named to the second team. Ship advanced to the semifinals of the PSAC Championship.

Nine Red Raiders were honored with All-PSAC Western Division selections including four to the 1st team—seniors Aaron Dykes, Jamie Reder (right), Jonathan Aldridge, and sophomore Mike Harris. Reder’s 244 points are the most ever by a SU kicker and his 44 field goals are second all time in Ship history.
The Men’s Cross Country Red Raiders earned a 4th-place finish at the PSAC Championships and NCAA Division II East Region Championships. Junior Stephen Thompson (left) was the top individual finisher for Ship, finishing 22nd at the conference meet and 16th at the region championship.
The Red Raiders Swim Team defeated Clarion, the first time since 1994, in a dual meet. Brian Taylor and Zak Clifford are early standouts. At the Patriot and Zippy Invitationals, two Div. I–laden meets, Ship men finished 4th at each and the Ship ladies were 6th at the Patriot and 8th at the Zippy. The team will host the conference championships this winter at Cumberland Valley High School.

Swimmers Maggie Albertson, Mandi Foltz, Suzy Weichelt, Gabe Oropollo, Vince Giordano, Kevin Riley, and Tom Beyer as the Raider mascot Big Red spent time at Grandview Elementary School assisting children participating in a reading project.
