A familiar face to all those who come back for Alumni Weekend, Mae (Latsha) Sobczak ’60, never misses the weekend or the chance to make her exceptional gummy bears. You may know Mae as the alumni hospitality suite hostess or through her involvement on the many committees and boards she has served. As we reach the 20-year mark for the Alumni Weekend Golf Tournament, we reflect and say THANK YOU to Mae, golf committee chair for the past 19 years, who has made the golf tournament what it is today. For the past 20 years Mae has led the way, coordinating the efforts year after year, striving for a fun and successful outing. 20th Annual Alumni Weekend Golf Outing Eagles Crossing Golf Course, Carlisle, Sunday, June 8, 2008 Each year the golf tournament grows in the number of golfers and the profits raised. The 2007 alumni golf outing had 108 golfers and raised over $7,300. Alumni and friends of SU have enjoyed playing at some of the finest courses in southcentral Pennsylvania. This year’s tournament will take place at Eagles Crossing Golf Course in Carlisle. Mae, along with the committee, is busy finalizing these plans. “We are hoping to increase the amount of money we raise for the scholarship fund and we are always looking to have a full field for golf.” The tournament is a flighted, four-person scramble with a light lunch before tee-off, a grilled steak dinner, on-course contests, and great door prizes. Early bird registration closes May 1, 2008 and the cost per player is $80. Proceeds go to the SU Scholarship for Outstanding Students. This year, the SU Foundation awarded this full tuition scholarship to 12 incoming freshmen. Anyone is encouraged to be a sponsor: Gold Raider $1000, Silver Raider $450; Red & Blue Hole Sponsor $150, Golf Cart Sponsor $50, Patron Sponsor $30, or Prize Sponsor. |
