After leading the SU field hockey team to one of the greatest seasons in team history, Head Coach Bertie Landes was named NCAA Div. II Coach of the Year by womensfieldhockey.com. She led her team to its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Div. II championships where the team advanced to the national semifinals for the second time. Ship earned its second-ever No. 1 ranking, a spot held all season, while winning the program’s first PSAC title. Bertie was named PSAC Coach of the Year for the third time in seven seasons at SU.

2005 PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year Megan Fogle and All-PSACWestern Division selection Shanna Oaddams (pictured left) highlight this year’s team that includes four returners and eight newcomers. Shanna was chosen as a preseason All-PSAC selection while Shippensburg was picked third in the PSAC Western Division coaches’ poll.

Senior Michelle Doughty became SU’s career digs leader, finishing with 1,685. She also became just the second player in Ship history to record 1,000 kills and digs in a career. Michelle and junior Missy Pierce were both named All-PSAC Eastern Division. Freshman Maureen DuVall set new SU records for assists with 1,318 assists and service aces with 105. Freshman Kelsi Hoffman set a new SU record for digs in a match and season, finishing the year with 787 digs.
Shippensburg’s Men’s Cross Country finished in third place at both the PSAC championships and the NCAA East Regional. With the team's finish at the regional, it qualified for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Pomona, California.

Women’s Cross Country Senior Lindsey Govern captured seventh place at the NCAA East Regionals, leading the Lady Raiders to a sixth-place team finish. As a result, Lindsey earned a bid to the NCAA Div. II Championships. The last time Shippensburg had an individual qualify for the NCAA championships was in 2003 when Kelly Stewart finished 32nd.

Shippensburg Wrestling opened the 2005-06 season in the East Stroudsburg Open. The team returns 2005 national champion Corey Jacoby at 197 pounds as well as All-Americans Jamie Thomas (125) and Mark Murphy (184). The Red Raiders also welcome Jake Lininger, formerly of the University of Minnesota and University of Pittsburgh at heavyweight. The team was ranked No. 7 in Division II in the preseason.

Shippensburg returns all five starters and 13 letterwinners from last year’s team that posted an 18-11 record and advanced to the PSAC semifinalsits first appearance since 1991. Junior guard Chuck Davis was named as a preseason All-PSAC selection while the Red Raiders were picked second in the PSAC Western Division coaches’ poll.

Sophomore kicker Jamie Reder finished the season by making 17-of-18 field goal attempts, setting new SU records for most field goals made and the best field goal percentage in a season at 94.4 percent. The mark also set a new NCAA Division II national record for highest season field goal percentage. Senior cornerback Brent Grimes also became the PSAC’s career leader in interceptions. The team had seven All-PSAC Western Division selections.
Juniors Jon Humerick and Scott Orner both earned All-PSAC Second-Team honors. Jon played 12 games in goal for the Red Raiders, starting 11 while leading the conference in saves per game and ranking third in shutouts per game. Scott started 19 games on defense while scoring one goal. His lone goal was the game-winner in a 2-0 win over Kutztown on September 7.
Senior Meredith Yakscoe-Markle earned All-PSAC Eastern Division First-Team honors for the second consecutive year. She ended her career as the SU record holder in career shutouts while also holding the record for career saves. Seniors Nikki Kegerreis and Melissa Kellogg earned Second-Team honors.
